Ryman column highlights Packers Foundation scholarship gift
We told you here previously about big news shared during October’s Chancellor’s Scholarship Dinner — namely, that the Green Bay Packers Foundation has made a $250,000 challenge grant to help fund endowed scholarships. Green Bay Press-Gazette business reporter Richard Ryman featured the good news in his Sunday (Nov. 10) business column, quoting Packers President and CEO (and UW-Green Bay Foundation Board member) Mark Murphy on the importance of the donation.
“UWGB is an outstanding university in the region, and this donation will allow it to offer more scholarships,” Murphy said. “The grant will also make UWGB more affordable for students in the area. In the long term, our hope is that this grant will increase the number of college graduates in the Green Bay community.”
Jeanne Stangel, interim assistant chancellor for university advancement, said a major announcement is forthcoming, once the Packers Foundation challenge is complete and the dollar-for-dollar match has succeeded in prompting an additional $250,000 in scholarship giving from other donors. That announcement could come quite soon, she said.
