Katers: Electronics in landfills

Campus recycling and waste expert Prof. John Katers, Natural and Applied Sciences, shared his views with WBAY on an electronics waste bill that is making its way through the Wisconsin Legislature. “The flat-screen TVs, the computer, the flat-screen computer monitors, those sorts of things, they’re all sources of mercury so it seems foolish to not recycle them when we know that there are known health effects,” he said. Some of the toxic metals in electronic components end up in the air, in the ground, or potentially in water. See story.
