New scholarship for women in forest products awarded to incoming UWGB freshman
KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WBAY) – Future UWGB freshman Carissa Ashman has become the first to be awarded the “Women in Forest Products Scholarship” from the Wisconsin Paper Council and Ahlstrom.
A ceremony celebrating Ashman’s achievement was held at Ahlstrom’s central office in Kaukauna, where she was given the $1,000 scholarship.
Action 2 News spoke to Ashman today about the honor, and while she says this isn’t the only scholarship she’s been offered, the fanfare behind this one makes it feel a lot more rewarding.
“I’ve received one other scholarship, and it was just like a ‘Hey you received it’ e-mail. But this one’s just so much more special because I get to be here and see everyone that was a part of it,” said Ashman. “Just this experience has made it so much better and amazing.”
Ashman will be majoring in environmental engineering once she begins college, following in the footsteps of generations of papermakers in her family.
