Press-Gazette: Stock market swings could affect college endowments

The shaky financial markets as of late have led to a great deal of speculation on what the stock swings mean for certain types of investments — including those of area colleges and universities. The Press-Gazette ran a front-page story on the topic in Sunday’s newspaper, making mention of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Foundation, Inc. (launched this spring) and quoting Tom Olson, chief investment officer of the UW Foundation (which holds the UW-Green Bay Foundation’s funds). The diversification of endowments in portfolios generally can help cushion the blow when markets dip, Olson said. Read story.
