News report: UW System will seek $95m in new state funding

Today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel offers a preview of the University of Wisconsin System budget proposal to be brought forward by President Ray Cross. The newspaper says the System will “seek a $95.2 million increase in state funding with a goal of more closely aligning education and research with the economic needs of the state… Cross plans to outline his ‘Talent Development Initiative’ during a UW System Board of Regents on Thursday at UW-Oshkosh, where the regents will meet both Thursday and Friday.” The story says that while Gov. Scott Walker informed state agencies last month to assume no new funding in the next biennial budget beyond standard budget adjustments, UW System leaders have had discussions with the governor’s office about their plans.
