Recession wears on arts venues

The recession has local arts groups trimming their budgets by cutting shows and freezing wages, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports. Weidner Center Presents, Inc., has one less main event title on its 2009-2010 season than last season, though more performances overall. “The economy definitely has had an impact on our scheduling,” said Katie Green, president of the community-based group that books subscription seasons at the Weidner Center. As are other organizations, Weidner Center Presents, Inc. is minimizing its risks. “It means diversifying your product and tuning in even closer to the needs, wants and purchasing environment of your consumers.” Read more.
