Former De Pere, UW-Green Bay star Ritchie tells story to TV-11

A month after graduating from UW-Green Bay with a degree in Business Administration and completing an all-conference career as one of Phoenix women’s basketball’s best players ever, Adrian Ritchie was approached by WLUK-TV 11 Sports for an interview. And it wasn’t really about sports. Instead, Ritchie was asked if she wanted to share thoughts on what it means to be a gay athlete today. She hadn’t talked publicly about her private life before, but decided she couldn’t say no. The result is a thoughtful and revealing interview in which Ritchie shares comments on teammates, fans and her hope that eventually, “The more we talk about it, the less of a taboo it’s going to be… I think more and more kids can feel comfortable with who they are.” It’s an exceptional piece for a local TV story — a full five minutes in length — and worth the time.
