Regent president: UW System could have been more open on finances


Brent Smith of La Crosse, president of the UW Board of Regents, said Friday that the state’s system of public universities could have been more transparent about its budget, particularly the $650 million in reserves that have drawn the ire of lawmakers. “Nobody can say that this was hidden,” Smith said. “But could we have done a better job of pointing that out? Sure.” Still, he said the UW System didn’t deserve the smack-down it received from the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee. Read more.
