TV-5 covers Phoenix fever: ‘Awesome… a huge achievement’

WFRV Channel 5 came to campus Friday to talk to fans after the Phoenix men’s basketball team clinched homecourt advantage for the Horizon League tournament. “I think it is awesome,” said student Greg Stellmacher. “We can kind of say ‘in your face’ to the other campuses that are a little bigger than us but with D-1 sports. It is a huge achievement.” Athletics Director Mary Ellen Gillespie says she has noticed a growing number of school-age fans crowding in to greet the players after games. A winning men’s team can also generate publicity for University recruitment purposes, she said, adding “It’s almost a commercial for the institution.” Resch Center and PMI officials are happy about the tournament games in Green Bay, too.
