The excitement continues after the UW-Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team on Thursday (Feb. 20) clinched its first conference title since 1996. News coverage on the team’s big win over Valpo included features on growth in attendance, reflections on what’s next and, of course, plenty of great net-cutting, championship-gear wearing celebration pics. In his Friday (Feb. 21) column, the Green Bay Press-Gazette’s Mike Vandermause called the win “a steppingstone to the main event, which is an NCAA tournament berth.” WLUK, Fox 11 reports more and more fans are showing up to the Resch Center to watch the men play — an average crowd of more than 4,000, up nearly 1,000 from last year. The Press-Gazette posted a great game-day photo gallery online, and other local news outlets covered the big game and subsequent celebration. See a sampling of coverage.
