Press-Gazette covers emotional support animals on campuses

The Green Bay Press-Gazette featured emotional support animals on campus, in its Feb. 12, 2018 issue. It’s a subject University officials don’t take lightly. Decisions about allowing emotional support animals in rental housing, including public and private college dormitories, are governed by the Fair Housing Act, which prohibits property owners from turning away any person with a mental or physical disability who has a certified emotional support animal. Even so, students have to go through a lengthy process to prove they need the emotional support animals and the animals are a good fit for the community. Gail Sims-Aubert, UW-Green Bay’s director of Residence Life was interviewed.
