Food insecurity means you don’t have access to enough healthy food in order to have a healthy, active life. Children are affected the most. “When children grow up in a food insecure environment, the consequences last for a lifetime. It affects cognitive development, achievement and health outcomes,” said Karen Early, FoodWise coordinator for the University of Wisconsin-Extension in Brown County. She also represents the the Center for Food in Community and Culture at UW-Green Bay. “If we look at Brown County about 10.5% of people would be considered food insecure. If you look at children, it’s higher than that at 16.4%,” she said. Source: By the numbers: Food insecurity in Northeast Wisconsin | WLUK
