UW-Marinette’s ‘friendship families’ receive some ink
UW-Marinette’s International Program was featured in December by the Eagle Herald Extra, particularly regarding the importance of “friendship families” to the exchange program — a program unique within the UW System to UW-Marinette, according to the story. “Friendship families are folks in the community who volunteer to host a student temporarily when the student first arrives to Marinette,” said International Program Director Danielle Clarizio. Clarizio pointed out friendship families are different than host families. “The program looks for families or individuals in the community who are willing to take in a student for the first three or four nights when they arrive. We need people who can give them a nice home where they can sleep out their jet lag, get a few meals and be supported during that time,” Clarizio said.
