Fire in unoccupied apartment building

Green Bay Fire Department personnel remain on the scene of an early morning fire in an apartment building of the Residence Life complex. Firefighters were called shortly after 5 a.m. According to a GBFD official quoted on the scene by reporters, the building was unoccupied. That fact is verified by campus officials, who say the building was unassigned — not in current use by any occupants — as part of any summer camp or University programs. There is significant damage to the structure, an original two-story apartment building located at the far end of the housing complex. Employees and others are asked to avoid the Walter Way area this morning. We’ll be back with an update shortly, as additional details become available.
