Historic gift: Buss preserves films of first Phoenix seasons

Great story now up in rotation on the UW-Green Bay homepage: Former head basketball coach Dave Buss didn’t want the program’s first seasons to fade into obscurity. Thanks to his generosity, more than 100 long-forgotten game films from the earliest seasons of men’s basketball have been preserved and converted to digital format. Buss funded the project to make gifts of the DVDs to his former players, but copies will also be available for public viewing. (Deb Anderson of the Library and Mike Schmitt of Media Services assisted with the work.) The collection includes the very first game, a 99-70 defeat of Milton College on Dec. 3, 1969. We have a short video clip of the first basket ever scored, vintage photos and the full story – click here.
