Black History Month events begin with Soul Food dinner
UW-Green Bay will have a number of events during Black History Month that will provoke laughter, inspiration and reflection. On the agenda:
• Soul Food Dinner, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 5), at the Ecumenical Center.
• From 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the Phoenix Club in the University Union, master jazz flutist Galen Abdur-Razzaq will perform and discuss the History of Jazz: Turn of the Century to Present Day.
• At 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the University Union Room 103, Jeff Willems will facilitate a discussion of the Tim Wise book: Between Barack and a Hard Place.
• At 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, in Phoenix Room B, Dr. Theresa Okafor of the Life League of Africa will be speaking about family issues in Africa.
• Spoken-word artist Jon Goode will be at the Common Grounds Coffeehouse at 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.
• The writings of black feminist Audre Lorde will be discussed from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the 1965 Room at the University Union. Sheila Carter, Student Life program manager, will facilitate a discussion of Lorde’s book, I Am Your Sister – Collected and Unpublished Work.
