Faculty notes: Ashmann, Ortiz

Scott Ashmann, associate professor of science education, has an article published in the current issue of Science & Children, (Vol. 47, No. 4, pp 24-27), the National Science Teachers Association’s journal for elementary school science teachers. His article, “The Pennies-as-Electrons Analogy,” is designed to help upper elementary students understand electron flow in electric circuits.

Associate Prof. Cristina Ortiz, Humanistic Studies, has published “La textualizacion de un espacio vivido: Fronton Astelena 1904-2004” a chapter in the peer-reviewed volume Estudios Culturales y Medios de Comunicacion (Bilbao: Universidad de Deusto Press, 2009). Further collaborations between UW-Green Bay and Universidad de Deusto (www.deusto.es)  include a semester-abroad program led by Prof. Ortiz.  She and a group of UW-Green Bay students will spend the spring semester of 2010 in Spain. During that time, UW-Green Bay students will be taking classes on Spanish language, literature, politics, economy and society of Spain. Ortiz will be teaching a course on Contemporary Spanish culture and she will be supervising UW-Green Bay students’ internships, academic work and cultural adjustment while in Spain. The group will return to Green Bay May 15.
