Susan Frost: Consider long-term vitality on Walmart plan
UW-Green Bay alumna, lecturer and longtime supporter Susan Frost ’97 is the author of a guest column in the Nov. 27 Green Bay Press-Gazette. In it, she considers the pros and cons of a proposed Walmart development on Green Bay’s near west side. The positives would include commercial activity at a long-vacant location and progress in alleviating a downtown “food desert,” but she cites the 1970s development of Port Plaza Mall downtown as a short-term boom that eventually became a long-term liability. She also observes that local ownership and small businesses return special dividends to a community. Read the article, titled “Create engaged cities for the long term.”
