Associate Provost for Outreach and Adult Access Jan Thornton has announced her retirement effective Dec. 30, 2009, after 37 years of working for the University of Wisconsin, 32-1/2 at UW-Green Bay. Among her major accomplishments are leading the revitalization of the Adult Degree Programs (formerly Extended Degree), founding the Learning in Retirement Institute and the Northwoods Initiative, and co-founding the Business Assistance Center, the UW Northeast Wisconsin Learning Center at Fox Valley Technical College, and the NEW ERA Faculty Dialogue Group. Thornton received the 2004 Founders Association Award for Excellence in Community Outreach.
