Prof, students, alumni help On Broadway earn state honors

In case you missed it: Last May’s celebration in Madison marking the 20th anniversary of the Wisconsin Main Street Program brought good news for several members of the UW-Green Bay community. At an awards program at Monona Terrace, representatives of Wisconsin’s 34 active Main Street chapters spotlighted the best of the best in revitalizing historic commercial districts.  Winning top prize for Best Main Street Design Committee Project 2007 was “The Broadway District Master Plan” authored by UW-Green Bay students in a yearlong effort supervised by Urban and Regional Studies Prof. Marcelo Cruz. (On Broadway Inc. earned additional awards including best-of-the-past-20-years honors in the category of improving a district’s business climate. Alumna and former director Naletta Burr shared in the achievement, and Board President Greg Larsen, Class of ’76, was inducted into the state program’s hall of fame.) Additionally, Cruz was Green Bay’s honoree for Volunteer of the Year honors.
