In the news: New faculty member offers take on proposed Walmart

A new UW-Green Bay faculty member weighed in on the controversy surrounding a proposed Broadway-district Walmart Wednesday (Sept. 4), writing a guest column for the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Assistant Prof. Jon Shelton, Democracy and Justice Studies, is a recent transplant from the Washington, D.C. area, and his column discusses the battle there concerning Walmart and a proposed bill that would require big-box retailers to pay their employees a so-called living wage of $12.50 per hour. Shelton also looks at the typical economic impact of a new Walmart, and discusses additional concerns regarding wages and benefits. Read the full column.
