Faculty note: Lowery publication


The July issue of the North Carolina Historical Review features an essay by Vince Lowery, assistant professor of Humanistic Studies and History. Its title is “The Transatlantic Dreams of the Port City Prophet: The Rural Reform Campaign of Hugh MacRae.” The essay examines MacRae’s private efforts to establish immigrant truck-farm colonies in southeastern North Carolina, his promotion of a similar government plan for returning soldiers after World War I, and, finally, his European-inspired campaign to establish farm communities under federal supervision throughout the 1920s and 1930s.
