Congratulations to Prof. Lisa Poupart of Humanistic Studies, chair of the First Nations Studies program. She received word this summer of her selection to receive a 2010-11 curricular redesign award of $15,000 from the UW System’s Office of Learning Technology Development and its LTD Council. The title of her project is “Preparing Wisconsin Teachers: Fusing First Nations Studies into the Education Curriculum.” Poupart, with Prof. Tim Kaufman of Education as co-director, launched the new Center for First Nations Studies at UW-Green Bay in 2009. A key objective involves better preparation of current and future K-12 teachers to teach young people about American Indian culture and sovereignty, as required by state mandates. We’ll have more details about the UW System grant and the project in a future posting.
