Faculty/staff note: Scott, Ganyard at national library conference

Resource librarian Mitchell Scott and director Paula Ganyard of the Cofrin Library presented their poster “Starting Somewhere: UW-Green Bay’s first information literacy assessment” at the American Library Association Annual Conference on June 28 in Las Vegas. This poster was part of the Association of College and Research Libraries Assessment in Action program. The Cofrin Library had been selected as one of the first 75 academic libraries in the country to go through this year-long program. Their poster explained how they set out to investigate the effect that information literacy instruction has on student learning, specifically looking to see if the type of instruction has a greater or lesser effect on student learning. Ganyard reports that the study provided the Library with useful and applicable data but, more important, represented a first foray into formal information literacy assessment and “taught us many lessons about the assessment process.”
