Faculty note: M.S. Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology graduate and Professor Chu published an article on Gender Typing in Mental Performance Employment Setting
M.S. Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology graduate Ellea Bachmeier and program Chair Prof. Alan Chu published an article titled, “Still an ‘Old Boys’ Club’? Certified Mental Performance Consultants’ Gender-Typed Sport Specialization and Employment Setting, in the Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology.” They found that a larger proportion of male than female Certified Mental Performance Consultants working in professional sports settings. Consistent with the goal of Title IX (which is in its 50th Anniversary year), the article suggests a need for collaboration between sport psychology professionals and sport organizations to help mitigate internal and external barriers to gender equity.
