Faculty note: Doreen Higgins receives invitation to pursue research in Sweden

UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. Doreen Higgins in the College of Health, Education, and Social Welfare, Social Work Professional Programs, received a formal letter of invitation this week from the Social Work Department at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden to conduct her sabbatical research in the spring semester of 2018. The University of Gothenburg’s Social Work Department has a social work student population of 1,500 and 130 faculty and staff, and will provide faculty support and other university resources to assist Prof. Higgins with her research on the social welfare state. More specifically, her study will examine perspectives of policymakers, social workers, and human service administrators on government social policies, and the delivery of basic social and economic supports across the domains of health care, housing, education, and economic security. Higgins will also explore the development of a student exchange program in social work, and in partnership with Prof. Andrew Austin, Chair of Democracy and Justice Studies, develop an interdisciplinary study abroad course to Sweden and other Scandinavian countries post-sabbatical.
