UW-Green Bay Social Media expert Todd Sanders offered some context Monday (April 29) for a TV news story on schools restricting social media access in the wake of a local incident. Bay Port High School last week restricted students’ use of Facebook after a video of an in-school fight was posted on the popular social networking site — and is now considering banning phones entirely after another such video went online. Such videos show an unbiased view of what happened in a particular incident, Sanders said, and could be used as evidence in disciplinary or related processes. Taking time to educate students on the social web is critical, Sanders said, because it’s going to be a part of their lives. Full story.
