Faculty note: Saxton-Ruiz presents at workshop on violence in Latin America

Prof. Gabriel Saxton-Ruiz last weekend was part of the 2012 Teaching and Learning Workshop: Confronting Violence in Latin America, sponsored by the North Central Council of Latin Americanists and held on the campus of UW-Milwaukee. Saxton-Ruiz talked about his Spanish 465 Special Topics course, Representations of Violence in Latin America, and how he incorporates films such as City of God and Chronicle of an Escape; detective novels such as Red April by Santiago Roncagliolo; arpillera art (Chilean textile art made from burlap); music including the popular Mexican narcocorrido, and comics like Jesus Cossio’s Barbarie.
