In the news: Wardle’s new contract makes headlines

News outlets at home and across the country carried the news Thursday (April 17) that UW-Green Bay and Phoenix men’s basketball Coach Brian Wardle have agreed to terms on a new five-year contract. In discussing the deal, Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie talked about the importance of relationships and interactions now and moving forward. “The relationship between me and the head coach and how he leads his staff and leads young men, and how he interacts with our fans and our students,” the Green Bay Press-Gazette quoted her as saying. “Being a part of the institutional community. He clearly is.” Gillespie called the contract “a strong commitment to Brian,” adding, “we want him as our head coach. We want him here in Green Bay.”
