Remembering Prof. V.M. Ganga Nair, photo gallery
Friends and family packed the University Union’s Phoenix Room on March 26 for a celebration of the life of UW-Green Bay founding faculty member Ganga Nair. More than a dozen speakers including faculty and staff colleagues, and community friends, shared remembrances. Mayor Jim Schmitt presented an official mayoral proclamation honoring the late professor’s contributions to campus, community and the world. Nair was widely traveled and known as an international expert on forest diseases and their cures. Born in Kerala state, India, in 1930, he went on to become a pilot in the Indian Air Force and later immigrated to the United States and received his Ph.D. From the University of Wisconsin in plant pathology and mycology. He joined the UW-Green Bay faculty in 1968. Nair passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2010 in Green Bay.
