Faculty/staff notes: Aoki, Arendt, Moore

Kristy Aoki from the Office of International Education was recently elected chair-elect for the Wisconsin Association of International Educators. The chair of WAIE has the responsibility of communicating state business to international educators across Wisconsin, and oversees the annual WAIE conference. In addition to being a key part of the WAIE leadership, the position involves representing Wisconsin to Region V of the National Association of International Educators. Aoki will serve as chair-elect until December 2010, then become chair until December 2011.

Lucy A. Arendt, assistant professor of Business Administration (management), was an invited presenter at the Annual Meeting of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute held February 3-6 in San Francisco. Her topic was “Legislation and Policy Challenges” as they relate to minimizing future earthquake damage to built structures and communities.

Dan Moore of Outreach and Extension is also a painter and photographer, and he’ll exhibit his “National Parks” art show downtown next month.  The show will be at the Northern Waters Gallery on Pine Street, opening March 4, with the gallery open Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons through March 27.  More information and images are available on his website at www.nationalparksartist.com.
