Searching for Romeo won’t find love at New York festival, after all
Prof. Brian Sutton was delighted last summer by the reception that Weidner Theatre audiences accorded his original musical comedy, Searching for Romeo. He was less delighted earlier this month when he learned Romeo did not get selected for the Next Link Project of the New York Theatre Festival, and thus will not receive a professional production in an off-Broadway theatre this coming summer. There’s still the possibility that the show could receive a developmental reading in New York as part of the festival. Sutton was also offered the option of seeking access to the reader and jury critiques, perhaps reworking the script a little, and resubmitting to next year’s festival.
