North to Alaska, after 20 years away, Phoenix men return to ‘Shootout’
Returning to Anchorage 20 years later, the Green Bay men’s basketball team opens the Great Alaska Shootout on Thanksgiving Night against Pepperdine at 8:30 p.m. CT. The game will be cablecast nationally by CBS College Sports Network. (Local radio coverage is via 1440 WNFL AM.) The program previously competed in the Shootout in 1993, going 1-2 with a victory over North Carolina State and close losses against a Glenn Robinson-led Purdue squad and a Wake Forest team featuring Tim Duncan. That Jeff Nordgaard-led Phoenix team went on to win 27 games and come within a few points of reaching the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen. See more on this year’s shootout.
