Talk on Sept. 24 opens Women’s Leadership series

The UW-Green Bay community is invited to welcome Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton as she helps begin the Office of Student Life’s third annual Women’s Leadership Program Series. Lawton will deliver  The keynote address at the opening reception is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Phoenix Room of the University Union. Lawton, of Green Bay, took office as Wisconsin’s 43rd lieutenant governor on Jan. 3, 2003 and was re-elected in 2006. Her work focuses on economic development, expanding opportunities for businesses to create jobs in Wisconsin through investments in the creative and green economy sectors. She has garnered attention for her economic development initiative Wisconsin Women = Prosperity. Lawton was the only U.S. elected official to participate in the International Women Leaders Global Security Summit co-convened by the former president of Ireland, Mary Robinson, and former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell.  A late change in schedule resulted in former Brown County Executive Nancy Nusbaum replacing Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton as the keynote speaker. Student Life notes that space is limited; register online at http://www.uwgb.edu/stulife/leadership/womenreg.asp
