‘Marx in Soho,’ this Thursday

Bob Wieck of the Iron Age Theater in Philadelphia will make a Green Bay stop this Thursday as part of his tour of Wisconsin campuses performing the one-man play “Marx in Soho.” The event takes place at 3:30 p.m. in the University Union’s Christie Theatre. Prof. Harvey Kaye of Democracy and Justice Studies is billing the performance as a special event in the Historical Perspectives Lecture Series open to students, staff and faculty.

“Marx in Soho” is a 1999 play by historian Howard Zinn. It depicts Marx brought back to life in contemporary New York City, where he tries to make a case for his vision of Marxism – not the communism practiced in the former Soviet Union – and tweaks the consumer culture and inequities of modern-day society.
