Pride Center to host October events

The UW-Green Bay Pride Center has many events planned for the month of October. Please consider attending:

Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019: Dick Wagner, author of two groundbreaking volumes on gay history in Wisconsin, will be in the Christie Theatre from noon until 1 p.m. He will follow his talk with a meet the author event from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Pride Center. Wagner’s book “We’ve Been Here All Along” provides an illuminating and nuanced picture of Wisconsin’s gay history from the reporting on the Oscar Wilde trials of 1895 to the landmark Stonewall Riots of 1969. Wagner’s book will be for sale outside the Christie Theatre. This event was made possible by the Pride Center and The Phoenix Bookstore.

Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019: Free showing of “Moonlight” (2016), the first film with an all black cast and with the main character as a person coming to terms with being LGBT, in the Christie Theatre from 4 to 6:30 p.m. A discussion will follow the film until 7:15 p.m. Sponsored by Black Student Union (BSU), Pride Center and Student Life. Snacks will also be provided.

Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019: Come hear Pride Center students Sapphire Shimmer and Boston Cream Pie read their two favorite children’s books, followed by eating cookies and doing crafts, for this event titled, “King and Queen Reading Books with Crafts and Cookies” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Cofrin Library. There will be an ASL interpreter present, and this event is free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Cofrin Library, Pride Center and The Phoenix Bookstore.

Friday, Oct. 11, 2019: National Coming Out Day. The Pride Center will provide educational information at the vendor table at the second floor of the Union, located by the stairway.

Monday, Oct. 14, 2019: SAFE Ally Level 1 and 2 training. Level 1 is from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by Level 2 training from 1 to 3 p.m. Safe Ally training provides insights on LGBTQ+ topics and how to be a better ally. To RSVP, contact Stacie Christian at christis@uwgb.edu.

Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2019: UW-Green Bay Clothing and Household Swap is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the University Union Phoenix Rooms. Your clean, gently used clothing for all ages, kitchen and household items, books and media, crafts and holiday decor is needed. This event is for all students, staff and alumni to come select items they can use that others are sharing. Donations can be dropped off at the Campus Cupboard in RH 140, the Pride Center or contact Stacie Christian for a curbside drop off at christis@uwgb.edu. Please, no computers, televisions or furniture that does not fit in a small station wagon. Volunteers to help set up are needed on Tuesday, October 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 pm.

Friday, Oct. 25, 2019: Nationally known artist, Rae Senarighi, along with two paintings will be featured at a meet the artist event from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. next to the University Union Common Grounds. You can learn more about Rae’s work on Netflix. Refreshments provided by the Lawton Gallery. Rae is sponsored by the Pride Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, Oct. 25, 2019: Hallowqueen 2 Drag Show is scheduled for 8 to 10 p.m. in the University Union Phoenix Rooms. This event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Pride Center and Good Times Programming.
