Prof. Rector leads ‘piano academy’ for students 10-17

UW-Green Bay Prof. Michael Rector (Music) has created an immersive musical training series called Piano Academy for kids aged 10-17, as a way to impart his love of classical music to the community. According to Psychology Today, there is abundant evidence that supports the idea that learning to play music can enhance cognitive performance in many ways. Researchers have linked musical training with improvement in working and verbal memory, visual attention, intelligence and even creativity. Piano Academy takes place on the Green Bay Campus. Students spend one hour with Prof. Rector in UW-Green Bay’s state-of-the-art piano lab, and then they practice what they’ve learned for another hour and a half in guided sessions with Professor Rector’s assistant music teachers. Piano Academy is a 13-week series providing a solid foundation in musical training, covering technique, theory and performance. Classes start Sept. 14. Learn more and register for Piano Academy.
