Ultra marathon finds a home at UW-Green Bay

The final results are in from last weekend’s big Green Bay Running Club Ultra Marathon, staged June 16 on campus on the trails of the Cofrin Memorial Arboretum.  Participants ran a looped course for a set time period — in this case, 6 hours or 8 hours — to see how much distance they could cover. The 2012 winners are David Sanchez (47.3 miles) and Kathleen Rytman (44.0) over 8 hours; and, for the 6-hour runners, Yair Melger (32.5) and Katie Houle (31.0).  Phoenix cross-country coach Mike Kline and vice chancellor Kelly Franz were among the University running enthusiasts who chipped in — not by competing, but by helping to organize the event and assisting with course layout, logistics, food and water stations and cold, wet towels on a humid day. Others included Sharon Dimmer, Sharon VanLieshout, Jeff Gross and Rick Warpinski. It was a long day (starting gun at 5 a.m.) and congratulations to all on a successful event.
