Luisa Campos visit and film ‘Maestra’ on April 12

Cuban educator and scholar, Luisa Campos, will be at UW Green Bay on Friday, April 12. Campos will screen the documentary film Maestra and discuss her work with the Cuban literacy project. The film screening and discussion will be held in the Christie Theater from 1 to 3 p.m. Maestra documents the nationwide literacy campaign that began in 1961 and sent as many as 250,000 volunteers — many of them young and most women — fanning out across the nation to teach people to read and write, in spite of hardships and even danger. The visit by Campos is a joint project of the Office of International Education and First Nations Studies.
