UW-Green Bay Musical Theatre Graduate in Upcoming Virtual Production

Alumna Alyssa Hannam (Graduated Fall of 2021) will now star in a locally filmed production of “Gruesome Playground Injuries” by Rajiv Joseph produced by the Whitewater Arts Alliance. Hannam plays Kayleen in this not-so-typical love story: Doug and Kayleen meet at the nurse’s office in their elementary school; she’s got a painful stomach ache, and he’s all banged up from a running dive off the roof of the school. Over the next thirty years, these star-crossed lovers meet again and again, brought together by injury, heartbreak, and their own self-destructive tendencies. With great compassion and humor, playwright Rajiv Joseph (Broadway’s Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) crafts a compelling and unconventional love story about the intimacy between two people when they allow their defenses to drop and their wounds to show. Directed by Matt Denney, Hannam has noted this to be one of her dream roles to play and has enjoyed rehearsing virtually and the process of discovery that has come with building the tight-knit community within rehearsals. The production also stars local Appleton, WI actor Johnathon Krautkramer and will be digitally available on April 24 and 25 from 5 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can and all proceeds will go towards the Whitewater Arts Alliance.
