Regents special meeting set for Friday in Madison

The UW System Board of Regents has called a special meeting for 10 a.m. this Friday (Feb. 25) in Madison. The agenda opens and closes with a single item:

• Discussion: Potential separation of UW-Madison from the rest of the UW institutions.

Regents kept in dark about UW System split proposal

The Board of Regents is the appointed citizen board overseeing the University of Wisconsin System but some regents say they were not informed about talks between Gov. Scott Walker and UW-Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin to split the school from the UW System. Some said the discussion should be more public. “We would sure liked to have known this was going on and this was the plan,” said Regent Brent Smith, a La Crosse lawyer. More.
