Erin Giese appointed as Interim Director for the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity

The College of Science, Engineering and Technology is happy to announce that Dr. Mandy Banet (California State University Chico) has been hired as the Director for the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity and will begin June 12, 2023 (more information on Mandy to come).

Erin Giese, Senior Research Specialist at the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity, has been appointed as the Interim Director for the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity following Prof. Robert Howe’s retirement on December 31st, 2022. Erin has worked for the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity as the Senior Research Specialist since August 2011.

She has a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Environmental Science at the College of William and Mary and a M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy at UW-Green Bay. She has previously worked for the U.S. National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, The Nature Conservancy, and others. Erin is an ornithologist with extensive experience in project management, wildlife monitoring, data management, grant writing, community science, and equity/diversity/inclusion.

She currently serves on the board of directors for the National Audubon Society, Audubon Great Lakes, and Northeastern Wisconsin Audubon and is the project leader for the Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Monitoring Program, Oneida Bird Monitoring Project, and Project SOAR (Snowy Owl Airport Rescue).
