Michael E. Marinetti

Michael E. Marinetti has been selected to become assistant vice chancellor for academic administration at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

He will report directly to Julia Wallace, the University’s provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. His appointment, which follows a national search, is effective July 15.

A thirty-year veteran of UW-Green Bay, Marinetti has held a series of director-level and administrative appointments. Since 1998 he has served as assistant dean for the College of Professional and Graduate Studies.

Previously, he spent a decade directing the Institute for Research, which coordinates grant writing and related contract compliance universitywide. Prior to that, he directed the institution’s Student Support Services Program and application of federal funds to supplement coursework, advising and tutoring for disadvantaged students. He had joined that program and the University in 1981 as a communications lecturer and adviser to at-risk learners.

Marinetti holds two degrees from UW-Green Bay. He earned his bachelor’s in communication and English education with summa cum laude honors in 1979, and he received his master’s of environmental arts and sciences in 1985.

Wallace notes that while Marinetti’s title is new on the organizational chart it does not represent creation of an additional administrative position but, rather, a reassignment of duties among her division’s current officers and staff members. Those changes follow reorganization of the former College of Professional and Graduate Studies into the College of Professional Studies, with administration of graduate studies and the office of research and grants moving to the provost’s office.

Marinetti will have responsibilities both operational and administrative. He will assist the provost with oversight and coordination of academic policies, budgeting, planning, recruitment of faculty and staff, facilities usage and personnel record keeping. Areas of additional attention will be oversight of the Institute for Research, Student Affairs budgeting including student fee allocations, and organization of both May and December commencement ceremonies.

Marinetti received the Founders Association Award for Excellence in Academic Support in 1995. He is also a recipient of the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. In the community, he has been honored for distinguished service by the local United Way and by ASPIRO (a Brown County association serving citizens with cognitive disabilities).
