Phoenix women rally but lose a thriller to No. 18 Purdue

The UW-Green Bay women dropped to a record of 6-4 Wednesday night with a third straight loss, but they got the Kress Center rocking with a late comeback against Big Ten visitor Purdue, the No. 18 team in the nation. Trailing by 11 points with three minutes remaining, the young and resilient Phoenix got within a point before falling, 49-45. Fierce defense marked the game, and Green Bay dominated many of the statistical categories (with the exception of foul-shot opportunities, and rebounds.) The Phoenix had won an impressive eight straight games against Big Ten opponents in recent years, before last night. The team plays next at in-state rival Wisconsin at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30.
