Interim Provost candidates Fritz, Richert available to meet university community Oct. 23

Two candidates for the position of Interim Provost at UW-Green Bay will be available to meet interested members of the university community at a joint, open reception from 1 to 2 p.m. next Thursday (Oct. 23) in the 1965 Room of the University Union.

The candidates are Stephen Edward Fritz and John H. Richert.

Fritz’s most recent academic appointment was as interim dean of The Honors College at Texas Tech University, from July 2010 through December 2013. He has previous chief executive experience as president of Midland Lutheran College (Neb.), New England College (N.H.) and Hiwassee College (Tenn.). He studied history and international diplomacy and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Kentucky.

Richert is a consultant and educator with previous executive experience as president of Mundelein College in Chicago (now part of Loyola University) and the College of St. Mary (Neb.), and as associate dean for the School of Education and Human Services at St. Johns University in New York. He holds a a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In addition to the joint open-to-the-public gathering on Oct. 23, the two men will participate in separate rounds of interviews both Wednesday and Thursday. UW-Green Bay is seeking an interim successor to Julia Wallace after it was announced Sept. 23 that she was stepping down after five years as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. The provost is the institution’s top academic officer reporting to the chancellor.

Chancellor Gary Miller said it is his intention that the interim will serve for the next 18 months or more. “Once our course as a University is set,” said Miller, who has commissioned an Invent the Future visioning process to be completed by April  2015, “in consultation with the faculty and staff, we will initiate a national search for the next provost.”

Resumes for Steve Fritz and John Richert have been posted online.
