Record attendance at the World Language Workshop

A new record number of participants took part in the annual UW-Green Bay Professional Development Workshop for the College Credit in High School (CCIHS) world language educators. Held virtually, the workshop was organized by Crystal Williams, CCIHS Program Specialist, and Modern Language faculty David Coury and Cristina Ortiz, and was attended by 35 high school teachers from around the state.

The theme of this year’s workshop was “Implementing best practices in the virtual World Language classroom.” The workshop featured three engaging presentations by Amelia Canilho (Sturgeon Bay High School, Spanish), Julia Price (Westosha High School, French) and Jackie Johnson (Reedsburg High School, Spanish). The presenters shared ideas and strategies about how to deliver dynamic, communicative world language instruction in a remote classroom.

Under the Green Bay’s Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement, the College Credit in High School program provides dual enrollment for high school students with participating high schools, enabling students to earn high school and college credit for the same class. Collectively, the opportunity saves Wisconsin high school students millions of dollars in reduced tuition. High school teachers who meet UW-Green Bay faculty approval are able to offer UW-Green Bay CCIHS courses in their high schools.
