UW-Green Bay senior Clare Bestul (Business Administration) was one of the nine young entrepreneurs selected to pitch their ideas at Light Up the Lakeshore business idea contest in Two Rivers on August 2, 2018. Bestul’s idea, a device that helps detect ice thickness and lake depth for ice fishers, didn’t win the contest. However, Bestul is still determined to make it reality. Bestul’s concern over her boyfriend who loves ice fishing, sparked her idea. The device would determine the ice thickness, lake depth and how much ice is needed to safely drive a vehicle over it. “I would like to have a drone to fly around the lake and transmit the data to a detachable screen so people are always aware of where they are,” she said. “It could be updated constantly during the day because conditions change constantly.” Bestul will work on her idea based on the feedback she received. She is working to complete her degree in Business Administration (human resources and management). The Green Bay Press-Gazette has the full story.
