First-ever 9/11 stair climb event remembers lives lost, impact of attacks

UW-Green Bay’s first-ever 9/11 remembrance “Walk the Stairs” event drew steady participation during its one-and-a-half hour run Wednesday, as students, faculty and staff ascended the Cofrin Library steps in honor of the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Participants climbed 125 stairs from the second floor to the eighth — some multiple times — and received American flag lapel pins once they reached the top. Hosted by the UW-Green Bay Wellness Committee and Vets 4 Vets student organization, with coordination from Public Safety, the climb featured a sign on each level reminding walkers of the impact of 9/11 — from sobering statistics about casualties to more uplifting messages of donations given in the aftermath of the attacks.
