Mentor Meyer helps induct UT alumnus into broadcast-education ‘hall’

Prof. Tim Meyer got a shout-out or two from the lectern at Saturday’s Alumni Awards Night here, as former students acknowledged his influence. In mid-April, he experienced something similar when he was invited to present a former student, Dr. Thomas R. Lindlof, who received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the National Association of Broadcasters/Broadcast Education Association.

Lindlof was one of more than 30 doctoral students Meyer advised and whose dissertations he directed while on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Texas in Austin.  A UT grad, Lindlof is currently a professor in the School of Journalism and Telecommunications at the University of Kentucky and has published many scholarly books and journal articles over his 30-year career.  He and Meyer continue to collaborate, most recently with the UW-Green Bay professor helping him shape his latest book, Hollywood Under Siege:  Martin Scorsese, The Religious Right, and the Culture Wars. The book was highly praised and received great reviews in the Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Star Ledger, and elsewhere.
