Helpap: Secession resolution unlikely to have an impact

Assistant Prof. David Helpap on Wednesday (April 30) offered some context for a Fox 11 news story on state Republicans’ plans to take up an “ensuring state sovereignty” resolution during their convention this weekend. The resolution includes language that would give Wisconsin the right, “under extreme circumstances,” to secede from the U.S. There’s been talk of secession in other states, too, Helpap said, but the resolution likely won’t have an impact. “If it passes this weekend, it means that it’s going to be adopted in the party platform,” Helpap said. “Does it mean anything down the road for the state?
